'Snow' Much Fun!

Are ya?  Are ya having 'Snow' much fun?!!

NOT.

At least my kiddo's were in the photo's on this page.  Me.....not so much......totally sick and tired of the freezing cold white stuff, but I'm sure you've heard that story before.

Here goes today's layout:

I kept things pretty simply, just allowed the background to do it's thing.

The title was created with my Silhouette.....

.... and various die cuts/embellies were scattered here and there.

The background die cut is from Jillibean Soup and patterned papers are from Bazzil.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you Monday,

Little Red Wagon #226 - Yearning For Spring

Yes....aren't we all yearning for a little Spring?!

Well this week over at...........

Rosanne has challenged us with just that........she wants to see a little 'Springlike' creation.  Shame we can't challenge Mother Nature with the same task!

So, you might choose Spring colours, a Spring theme or image......doesn't really matter as long as there's a fresh contrast to the white/grey blanket of snow we've suffered for the last few months.

I chose to go with a 'Springlike' cluster of blooms I picked up as a freebie file from Miss Kate Cuttables for the Silhouette last week. I paired it with a suitable Spring like quote, and even delved into a 6"x 6" paper pad I've had in my stash for a while, aptly named 'Spring Fling'........are we clear here?

Think Spring people........SPRING!!

I thought this flower cluster looked pretty cute, and it was.......until I had to glue together the hundred teeny pieces.

Note to self: make the card a little bigger next time!

Why not delve into Spring yourself this week, and enter the challenge over on the blog.  The Girlfriends too have been suitably inspired as always.

I'll be seeing you again later in the week so till then, enjoy,

Happy Day

Hey, how's it going?

My title suggests a 'Happy Day' and it would be if I didn't have a nose that's glowing like Rudolph and a voice which might be considered sexy in a husky kinda way, if it wasn't for the fact that the congestion makes me sound like I'm wearing a nose clip!

My little one was sick all last week and was kind enough to share with her Momma......joy!

Oh well, I'm cheering myself up with a happy kinda layout.

I finished this one a few weeks ago but as usual, I'm playing the blogging 'catch up' game.  The layout was inspired by an older Sketch from Stuck?! Sketches.........

Here goes......Happy Day!

Pretty much stuck to the sketch exactly here.....if it ain't broken etc......

Plus the fact that the background paper is busy enough to fill in the gaps.

I got folding with an accordion heart - you can find the tutorial here.

Added a few acrylic paint splatters here and there......

and a cute cluster of embellies here......

I'm loving my sequins right now - they seem to be making their way onto every layout I create these days!

Papers for this one are from My Minds Eye.

OK, I'm done so I'll be back again tomorrow once I've dug to the bottom of my 'Little Red Wagon'.

See you then,
Jayne.x.

Little Red Wagon #225 - Anything But A Card

Hello.

We have sickness in the house AGAIN!

I tell ya, I think I'm going to invest in a bulk load of Vitamin C next year just to make sure the friendly germs my kiddo's seem to welcome home on a regular basis, get the hint!

Anyhow this means of course that today's Little Red Wagon post is yet again.....late! At least I'm still posting on the correct day though so here goes........

It's Jan's turn to host this week's challenge and we must have been particularly bad (in my book anyway!) because she wants to see 'anything but a card' as long as it involves paper.....not my favourite challenge I'll admit even though there are plenty of options to choose from.

I wanted to do something different - a bookmark, a tag, an altered item came closest but after trawling the Silhouette store for quite some time I couldn't shake the feeling that I was cheating by letting the machine do all the work for me.

So eventually I decided to stick with what I know best and create a scrapbook layout.......it involves paper and is definitely not a card!

I also decided to have a little fun.

After scrapbooking for almost 7 years I still have absolutely no clue what my style is, or if I even have one!  I just like to try different stuff......whatever makes me happy, and this page is vastly different from my usual layouts I guess......and it makes me happy!

There's a magazine I LOVE, a British publication called Scrap 365 and recently they teamed together with Mixed Media Place for a Blog Hop.  I was transfixed for a couple of hours 'ooohing' and 'aaahing' over this talented bunch of ladies and knew I'd have to take the plunge sometime.

I quite often dabble in a little mixed media on my layouts but never full out, and although this one is by no means 'extreme' mixed media, it's probably as far as I'll go.

For more reasons than one, here's Brave.

So, what's going on in the background here?

Scrunched pieces of Washi tape and a layer of Gesso together with some stencilled moulding paste and a little random stamping........

Messy thread and a chipboard heart, altered with Moulding Paste and Gelato's.........

Various embellies thrown on top and finished with another layer of Gesso, then drizzled with splotches of Glimmer Mist.

And finally the journalling, printed onto vellum, explains all.

So, why not be 'brave' yourselves and venture away from a card, for this weeks challenge.

Link up over on the blog and check out a little 'non card' inspiration from the rest of the girlfriends.

In the mean time this baby will be heading into a couple of challenges itself.

The layout for this page was inspired by the current sketch over at Stuck?!Sketches.

You might say I took it and ran with it, but the basic arrangement is there.

Also the current 'What Are You Feeling' challenge over on the Mixed Media Place blog.......

.....happens to be for your interpretation of the word 'Courage'.

How convenient!

I'll be back again later this week with.....who knows what?

Have a great evening and I'll see you soon,
Jayne.x.

Chillin'

A very happy Family Day to all my Canadian friends!

Gotta love an official holiday that allows you to sit in you jammies all day.......as a 'family'....huh?

Yep that's exactly what I plan on doing today, maybe a little crafting (and laundry!) in there too, until we head out to an Anniversary celebration later this evening.

I was a little slack with my blogging last week.....only one post, so I have to get back on track starting today.

I'm catching up on a layout I should have posted a while ago, the final creation from a Two Scrapbook Friends DT Kit using the 'Happy Go Lucky' collection by Fancy Pants Designs (you can check out the first layout here).

This one showcases the (other) love of my life, our puppy Charlie on his first day home with us back in August 2013.

Chillin'

Isn't he cute?

He does however loose a little of his cuteness when he's hanging from the tattered remains of what used to be my living room curtains!!

For this page I focused the design around a fussy cut section of hexagonal patterned paper.  I wanted a little doodling in there too, so I outlined the piece with a fine line marker.

There's a variety of embellies dotted here and there including one of those rather large light bulbs (Prima I believe but I could be wrong!)you can pick up from the 'bulk' box at Two Scrapbook Friends........I love this box.....an awesome little Aladdin's cave of embellies!

As you can see I stitched a few circles around it to add a little more definition.

Finally, to keep with the 'doodled' theme, I added some to the title by cutting the word 'Chillin' with my Cameo, then doodling by hand over top.

That's all for now so I'll be back again this week when I decide what's coming up next.

I've been having fun this week by getting messy, dabbling a little more in mixed media......variety is the spice of life they say so I guess you'll have to wait and see how that turned out!

Enjoy the rest of your day,
Jayne.x.

Little Red Wagon #224 - Pocket

Phew - a busy day today with one thing and another and as I only got home around an hour ago, today's Little Red Wagon post is just a smidge late!

This week Joanne would like to see a pocket on your creation so I took the challenge in it's literal sense and added.....a denim pocket......complete with rivet and stitching!

This weeks card is another 'easel' variety except this is what I like to call the 'make it up as you go along' style!

Not the most structured design I'll admit, but a pretty good way of using up a whole bunch of scraps from your stash.

Here's a close up of that pocket.........

I specifically chose this collection of papers from Authentique for the denim print, but one of the sheets has a whole bunch of 'rivets'(if that's what you call them!) printed on there, so I fussy cut around one, added a little Glossy Accents and stuck it on.  The stitching and a gift card stuck in the top finished things off.

Hopefully you'll get a chance to join in with this weeks challenge over on the blog and come up with your own 'pocket' creation.

I'm off to check out what the rest of the Girlfriends have been up to, so have a good one and I'll see you again later in the week,
Jayne.x.

Happy 2014......maybe just a tad late!

Good morning.

I managed to fit in some happy crafting this week between snow storms......or rather 'during' snow storms!  What better way to spend those cold, dark nights than holed up in your craft room?

I really wanted to create a layout using the current sketch over at Stuck?!Sketches and link up.

I use their sketches quite often, but usually older ones so I never seem to link up to be in with a chance of winning anything.

Not today........I'm linked and in there! Lol

I do really like my page though.....it just seemed to come together really nicely. The plan in my head worked (for once!), and these days I'm really liking a carefree use of stamps on my pages.

At one time I was scared to death to stamp anything on a layout for fear that it would either not stamp effectively, or I wouldn't like the look of it!  Now, especially with the popular distressed/grunged look, and the fact that more and more art journalling techniques are settled nicely into scrapbooking, the pressure is off.  Stamp away, and if it doesn't work perfectly.......who cares, it was 'meant' to look like that anyhow! (wink!!)

Here we go, better late than never........Happy 2014!

This photo was taken a few weeks ago when my hubby and daughters attended the Mayor's levee in Cambridge and had a great time.......Mommy was at work! :-(

At the celebration, they had a photo booth kinda thing set up where you were able to dress up in various props and have your shot taken.  These were then later e-mailed out to you.......a perfect scrapbook opportunity, even when you're not present!

I wanted to focus on photography and numbers as a general theme throughout this page, hence the arrangement I cut using my Cameo, embellished with a film strip from Tim Holtz.......

I love that tape but a word of advice if you're using it.......I'm convinced it will not stick down with anything other than cement (and even then I'm not really convinced).

Having used it on a fair few pages, I now just instantly reach for the staple gun.......saves for a lot of frustration (and cursing!).

When I saw the circle on the sketch, I thought 'clock face' - perfect!  Just had to search for one in the Silhouette store and found this vintage version.

There's also some of that random stamping I mentioned and a little more down here, together with my title which actually worked out I think.  The sequins remind me of light bulbs which was sort of the look I was going for.

Finally it needed fireworks, so I got to work with the Liquid Pearls.......I don't think I've used this stuff in the last 5 years!

Papers are the 'Celebrate' collection from Authentique.

That's about all so I guess I'll be getting ready to go to work.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you next week,
Jayne.x.

Little Red Wagon #223 - Love!

Morning.

As I scheduled today's post last night, I'm wondering if this morning we are now in the midst of Winter storm #...... (who cares what number it is, just more of the white stuff!) as predicted by the forecasters?

Hibernation is becoming more and more appealing by the day I tell ya I'm so sick of this Winter.

Yes I realize I live in Canada and we have Winter every year so I have no right to complain blah, blah, blah........but I'm English so I'm taking advantage of my natural ability to moan about the weather!

At least I get to scrap today (if I dug myself out of my driveway that is!).

Anyhow, on to happier things......joyful things......romantic things.......I'm talking about the 'Lovefest' that's happening this week over at Little Red Wagon.

Yep, Jodi's taking the helm and in honour of the fast approaching most romantic day of the year (that's Valentine's Day for those of us who've been with their partner for more than 20 years!), she'd like to see a creation inspired by the word 'LOVE'.

Easy right?

I came up with a card which will be heading to the man in my life (no....not the puppy!) who has put up with me for the last 23 years (yes I really am that old!)......my hubby.

Here goes:

Look at those lips!  Not quite my shade but I like em anyway.

I thought I'd put in a little effort this week and go for an easel card.

It really was a little effort on my part because the Silhouette did most of the work!

I do like those lips though (which incidentally are a freebie file by Nicole Nowosad that you can go grab for yourself right here) so much so I stuck another set on there to act as the anchor for the easel.

Papers are Echo Park from a couple of years ago - I think they were the only 'Valentine' kind of collection I have in my stash.......a true romantic I know!

Why not spread a little 'LOVE' yourself and join in with this weeks challenge by linking up over on the blog.  The Girlfriends have a little inspiration there for you too.

I'll be seeing you later in the week with another scrapbook page so till then, have a good one,
Jayne.x.

The Family

I couldn't decide which layout to post today so I guess I'll go with the oldest.

This one is the first page from another Two Scrapbook Friends DT Kit, this time using the 'Happy Go Lucky' collection from Fancy Pants Designs.

The photograph I used is from a family dinner last Summer, during my parents annual visit. It reminds me of some Mafioso kinda get together (lol) so I actually wanted to call it 'Da Family' with a thick Italian American accent, but English grammar won out in the end!

The Family.

And now for a little 'behind the scenes' glimpse into the mechanics of this page.......more affectionately known as the 'bloopers'!

When I get a new DT kit my brain usually starts to work on the drive home from the store.  I get an idea of a particular photograph I'd like to use together with the basic layout.

I knew I'd snapped this photo last summer but hadn't had it developed yet, so I got to work on the layout that night thinking I'll just print it off when it's convenient.

There's a lesson to be learnt here.......don't ever create a whole layout based on a vertical 4"x6" photograph, only to find out later that the said photo is a horizontal 4"x6"!!

I might also suggest using re-positional tape runners (not the stuff you can't shift with a crowbar like I did!) so that when you discover your....ahem.....oversight.......you can still adjust things.

I'd even glued down the matting for the photo!

No worries, we're a resilient bunch us crafters, or rather, far too stubborn to do the whole thing over, so the one vertical 4"x6" became two horizontal 4"x3".......problem solved!

I clustered a cute little bundle of embellies on one side of the page......

(love those 'vintage' doilies, cut with my Silhouette) and balanced it with another on the opposite side.

I had to throw in that little caravan - reminiscent of my childhood memories vacationing in Wales.

I created a hanging pennant for part of the title using a metal arrow....you can buy them loose along with various other nick-knacks at the store.

Just about all I think.

I'll be back tomorrow for Little Red Wagon day so see you then,
Jayne.x.
